Before the Law No. 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance was enacted, halal certification was carried out by MUI on a voluntary basis. The inspection process for these products was conducted by the Institute for Food, Drugs, and Cosmetics Assessment (LPPOM MUI). However, after the enactment of Law No. 33, the Ministry of Religious Affairs established the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) to provide assurance and certainty of Halal Products to Indonesian Muslims. The law also grants authority for the inspection and/or testing of product halalness to the Halal Inspection Agency (LPH).

LPH UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim (Maliki) Malang was established in 2018 with a management structure outlined in Rector's Decree Number 2240/Un.3/HK.00.5/04/2018 to support the implementation of Law No. 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance. Since October 5, 2022, LPH UIN Maliki has been accredited as a Primary LPH with Accreditation Number REG RI LH A-1P12470020013122, thus legally authorized to conduct halal product inspections and/or testing for businesses applying for halal certification.

LPH UIN Maliki has the following advantages:

The scope of halal certification is wide including food and/or beverages, medicines, cosmetics, chemical products, biological products, genetic engineering, consumer goods, slaughtering services, processing services, storage services, packaging services, distribution services, sales services and serving services,
2. All Halal Auditors are BNSP certified.
